Wilfried Richter was born on May 9, 1916 in Pforzheim.

He joined the Nazi Party in 1934, and the SS in 1937. He was assigned to 15./SS-Standarte "Deutschland". In 1939/40, he was sent to the SS-Junkerschule at Braunschweig.

He was assigned to the SS-Totenkopfdivision on May 1, 1940, just in time for the campaign in France.

Wilfried Richter was awarded the Knight's Cross while in command of a Sturmgeschütz Battery, 3rd SS Sturmgeschütz Battalion, 3.SS-Panzer-Division 'Totenkopf' on the 21 April 1942, in the Demjansk Pocket.

He later went on to become an instructor for officers in training at Bad Tolz, and then the school was dissolved and formed into a unit, which he would command, II.Battalion, 95.SS Panzergrenadier-Regiment, 38.SS-Division 'Nibelungen'.

He would survive the war, and die in 1981.
